Plan to go for a liquid detox diet after a heavy week of drinking and binge eating. Is this way of compensating the calories appropriate…NO. You know how it starts. After a particularly unending weekend of binge eating and binge drinking, you decide to turn over a new leaf or compensate for all the indulgences. You then decide to take a detox diet – liquids all day It doesn’t matter whether it’s juices, soups or water. Liquid diets might actually be bad for your health depriving you of the essential nutrients. Many people opt for liquids that comprise of lime water, reduced food intake and drinking more than six liters of water every day. Needless to say, you loose weight only to gain back and then some more. If you are on a liquid diet — no matter what that liquid may be — you will be almost completely starved of carbs, proteins and fats, all of which are crucial for your health. And, importantly crucial for long-lasting weight loss plans. Weight loss diet should always be sustainable. Fat burning is a high metabolic activity and one needs nutrition to sustain it. Without that, the weight will come back as quickly as you lose it, and in many cases, you may gain more than you lost. As all liquid diets are crash diets — side-effects include hair loss, brittle or weak nails as well as weaker bones, teeth or digestive tracts. Then comes, an irritable bowel. By drinking so much, you are essentially preventing your brain from sending out hunger signals. So even if you ‘feel fine’, your body will protest on its own way later. Other starvation side effects include dizziness, breathlessness, headaches, hallucinations, nausea, low blood pressure, palpitations and extreme fatigue. ” If you want to lose weight, always eat healthy to stay healthy..”

HOW TO EAT HEALTHY IN HOLIDAYS ?

Holidays means fun and relaxation. We are on a break from work and stress. During the holidays we also tend to take break from healthy eating and indulge ourselves in unhealthy eating. Now the question arises : Why do so many people find it hard to stick to healthy eating during the Holiday season? To put it simply, you get trapped in the ‘Holiday Cycle’. NIGHT OUTS The Holiday Cycle for unhealthy eating starts off with late night parties, weddings and hosting relatives which can lead to sleeping way later than you unusually do; making you wake up way later than you usually do which then leads to… REDUCED EXERCISE Your schedule changes when you are waking up late. You end up having much more to do in the day. And that’s when exercise starts to get sidelined. The exercise routine gets compromised. You tend to excuse yourself from workouts. This often leads to… NO EXERCISE And you know what happens when you can’t burn off the excess calories, right? You wind up with… EATING MORE The hunger and thirst centres in the brain are set very close together. We sometimes confuse thirst with hunger and wind up eating when actually all we need is a glass or two of water. When we eat more, we are more predisposed to… LETHARGY That feeling when you just don’t want to get up and do anything but sleep. And when getting up and moving is really the last thing on your mind. When you’re recovering from an eating binge, you’re pretty much faced with… WEIGHT GAIN No exercise means that you’re not compensating for the heavy eating. And that’s when we have to start all over again. Add this to the fact that studies show that we eat and drink more when we are in the company of others. BREAK THE CYCLE The best way to break this cycle is to keep the late nights to a minimum, eat sensibly through the week and drink as much water as possible. Get proper sleep as there is a proven link between sleep deprivation and weight gain.
